The past few years, I've had to do a lot of work on precisely this topic. What amazed me is how familiar we can be with stress, with dissonance, to the point that we identify that as a normal state of being, in contrast to that which resonates more deeply within us, which we come regard as foreign, wrong, forbidden - because that is how it has been projected to us by others. How liberating it is when we make the shift! And how important it is for parents and teachers to embrace 'know thyself' as foundational to their interactions with their charges.
