I find that many 18-25 year olds express great interest in psychology, to the point of taking the subject at university, only to be seriously disappointed. What they understand as psychology, however, is actually philosophy, of which they know nothing. Philosophy needs street cred.

I had a student in one of my philosophy classes that thought it was a psychology class, so that totally tracks. If I remember correctly, she was very excited to be taking her first class in her major, which as you may guess, was actually psychology!
